The transaction counter: Week 8

I didn’t make any roster moves for the Salford Bloggers this week and, outside of putting in a waiver claim for Andre Williams, I felt comfortable with my current personnel. So here are the rest of the moves from around The League.

Wed, Oct 29

Wigan Warriors (Wig) added Phil Dawson (K, SF)

Wigan Warriors (Wig) dropped Dan Carpenter (K, BUF)

This was a strange move to make. Dan Carpenter, who had performed admirably last week in place of Phil Dawson for the Wigan Warriors finds himself back as a fantasy free agent. It would be understandable if Dawson had been productive this season, but he has had only two double digit games, whereas Carpenter has twice that amount. Carpenter is on a bye week himself with Buffalo, but there are better options to go with such as Randy Bullock or Shaun Suisham.

La Linea Lineman (LLL) dropped Doug Martin (RB, TB)

La Linea Lineman (LLL) added Andre Williams (RB, NYG)

It was surprising to see Doug Martin dropped by Abergele JETS a couple of weeks ago, but his trend of poor fantasy outings has continued. Martin has scored 20 total points so far this season. To put that into perspective, Dallas’ DeMarco Murray scored 20 fantasy points in one game on Monday night – he was drafted nine picks after Martin. His performances have now made him the only second round pick to be dropped twice.

Coming in to replace Martin is Andre Williams in his second stint as a member of La Linea Lineman. Coming off a bye week, Williams should get another crack as the Giants’ lead back with Rashad Jennings out, and has the opportunity to be a solid fantasy producer.

Barnyard Gems (HD) dropped Dwayne Bowe (WR, KC)

Barnyard Gems (HD) added Brandin Cooks (WR, NO)

Although Dwayne Bowe has had three solid outings in the past three weeks, his play hasn’t been spectacular enough for him to be a starter. Brandin Cooks, on the other hand, enjoyed his best game since his debut as he racked up 21 points. Cooks has a much higher ceiling than Bowe, and therefore, is more worthy of a roster spot.

La Linea Lineman (LLL) dropped Ryan Tannehill (QB, MIA)

La Linea Lineman (LLL) added Eli Manning (QB, NYG)

Coming off the back of a week in which he threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns, and didn’t turn the ball over, it looked as though Ryan Tannehill may have earned himself starter status in fantasy football. But he followed that performance up by failing to post good numbers against one of the worst teams in the NFL in Week 8, and so now finds himself on the scrapheap.

In need of a quarterback after last week letting Matt Ryan go, La Linea Lineman now find themselves taking on the unpredictable Eli Manning, who has had a bye week to help him settle down and work on his on-field issues. Whether he’s an improvement on Tannehill remains to be seen.

La Linea Lineman (LLL) dropped Tre Mason (RB, STL)

La Linea Lineman (LLL) added Jonas Gray (RB, NE)

Last week Tre Mason looked like a good pickup because Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham haven’t been playing as well as the Rams would’ve hoped, but following a game in which he scored only five points, Mason finds himself back where he started.

Meanwhile, the New England Patriots’ Jonas Gray is a hot waiver wire addition this week after totalling 17 carries for the team last time out, and will probably get more of an opportunity to run the ball than Mason will in the coming weeks.

Wigan Warriors (Wig) added Redskins D/ST (D/ST, WSH)

Wigan Warriors (Wig) dropped Vikings D/ST (D/ST, MIN)

The Vikings D/ST is coming off the back of two consecutive weeks scoring 14 and 21 points respectively, but they will be coming up against a Redskins offense who could see Robert Griffin III return to his starting role.

The Redskins, on the other hand, probably won’t have quite as much trouble against an impotent Vikings offense that has averaged just 12 points over the last four weeks. A sensible move to make ahead of the weekend’s games.

Thur, Oct 30

Team apachefootball (zac) dropped Brian Quick (WR, STL)

Team apachefootball (zac) added Andrew Hawkins (WR, CLE)

With Brian Quick on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, his season is now over – hence this particular roster move. Team apachefootball’s decision to bring in Cleveland’s Andrew Hawkins to replace Quick is a good one, as the Browns receiver has double-digit fantasy points in his last two games.

Kardac Kids srm (SRM) added Chargers D/ST (D/ST, SD)

Kardac Kids srm dropped Bills D/ST (D/ST, BUF)

Although the Bills have a bye week, the decision to bring in the Chargers D/ST in relief is an extremely questionable one. San Diego’s defense hasn’t generated a turnover in two weeks and had minus-six points in their last outing, and they’ll going up against a Dolphins team this week who are averaging 29 points in their last four games.

Abergele JETS(ABJ)  added Cairo Santos (K, KC)

Abergele JETS (ABJ) dropped Mason Crosby (K, GB)

Crosby and the Green Bay Packers are on a bye this week, so the Abergele JETS made the smart decision to bring in Kansas City Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos to replace him. Santos should have plenty of chance to score points in Week 9 against the New York Jets.

Team Zachrich (TZ) dropped Jordan Cameron (TE, CLE)

Team Zachrich (TZ) added Cordarrelle Patterson (WR, MIN)

One of the biggest disappointments of the 2014 fantasy football season has been Jordan Cameron. Expected to be a top-five tight end, Cameron is outside the top-20 as we approach the halfway mark. Underperformance and a concussion have teamed together to help Cameron find his way to fantasy free agency, and has given Cordarrelle Patterson another chance to perform for a team in The League. Last week’s nine-point performance could pre-empt somewhat of a renaissance for Patterson, whose only double-digit performance so far this season came all the way back in Week 1.

Fri, Oct 31

Abergele JETS (ABJ) added Tre Mason (RB, STL)

Abergele JETS (ABJ) dropped Greg Jennings (WR, MIN)

Once a fantasy asset, Greg Jennings is now an undependable player – even as a starter for the Minnesota Vikings. Tre Mason, however, has a much higher ceiling than Jennings if he gets the same amount of workload that he saw in Week 7 against Seattle.

Sat, Nov 1

Barnyard Gems (HD) dropped Malcolm Floyd (WR, SD)

Barnyard Gems (HD) added Bills D/ST (D/ST, BUF)

As was mentioned above the Bills are on a bye week this week, but Barnyard Gems was obviously planning ahead by picking up the third-ranked D/ST, and trading in Malcolm Floyd who hasn’t really broken through the WR3 barrier this season. A smart move which could pay off further down the line.
